Walter's Story
Hola, I’m Walter. I’m 16 years old and I’m in 8th grade. The things I like most are playing sports, working out, and reading the Bible. This is my second year studying at Chispas of Change and I really enjoy it. My family is big - I have five brothers and three sisters - and everyone is different. My mom works selling tortillas at our house, I have a sister who graduated from high school, and another sister who is in her final year of high school. I hope to graduate from high school too some day.
I remember when I used to get up early each morning to go shine shoes in Central Park. I had dropped out of school because we weren’t able to buy my school supplies, so I thought that my time in school was over. One day I ran into Estuardo in front of Iglesia del Camino and he told me about Chispas of Change. I went to visit the school to see what it was like. I liked it, and so I stayed. Even though I started studying halfway through the school year, they gave me the opportunity to be part of Chispas of Change.
I have learned so many things about the Bible at school… like how to repent, about baptism, how to love my neighbor, and how to think logically.
What I like most about Chispas is that we have super cool activities each day and also Bible class.
What I miss the most about Chispas right now is going to Bible class and going out to the soccer field for PE on Fridays.
In 10 years, I hope to have a good job and a happy family. I hope to be a good father and to help other people in need.
Walter is a role model and big brother figure for our youngest students. Please pray for provision and safety for his family, and for Walter to continue striving to make choices that honor God.
