A Letter from Ms. Eileen, our 2nd Grade Teacher
I got to Chispas of Change in February 2020. At first I thought Chispas would be like a common school, but when I arrived and got more deeply involved I saw that it was very different because they not only get involved in education, but also in the family and spiritual lives of students. Over time I learned a lot more than I could have imagined and it has really been very good. The learning adventures with my students have not been easy but God has been my strength. He helps me to treat my three children in a creative, patient, loving and respectful way. Luis, Meyer and Brayan are extraordinary children. Luis is 12 years old, he is a very intelligent boy and is best friends with Meyer. Meyer is a happy boy, he is also 12 years old, and both are in 2nd grade. They finished the school year and passed their their grades; 3rd grade awaits them. Brayan is 10 years old, he arrived to Chispas a month ago and he adapted well as soon as he felt at home. He learned to read very soon after.
I take advantage of the time I am with the boys in Chispas to carry out various activities: we play, dance, run, sing and especially read. The children have access to many books that Callie and Estuardo have acquired in a mini library at their house.
What surprises me is that older boys always read their Bibles without anyone telling them to do so. I know that they are very interested in the story of Jesus, they are interested in being like Jesus, and I also know they want and long to teach the word of God.
I thank God that the little ones always look forward to the daily Bible story and each day they learn new things about what God wants for their life. I am so happy that the children put into practice what they learn each day. At the end of every Bible story we watch a children's movie about the story. I would certainly not change my job.
I know God has wonderful plans for Chispas in the coming year.
During the pandemic, Callie and Estuardo constantly visited the students so that they did not lose interest in learning about education and God. Later as teachers we also went to visit them from house to house so that they could continue with their homework and thus be able to finish the school year very well.
Estuardo and Callie's house functions as a school since the children could no longer go to school where they normally did. The kids are brought in early in the morning; they have breakfast and lunch at the López home. They have an incredible day receiving classes, reading books, and going for walks in very educational and recreational places to distract themselves from the classes for a little while.
There’s no doubt the children are very fortunate to have met Estuardo and Callie, as through them they have learned more of God. I am so surprised by their solidarity since they decided that we would help several children in our community who, due to the pandemic, no longer went to school. Since many children do not have access to the internet or access to books, at the López home they provided internet, printing, books, and more than anything the Word of God. Without a doubt, all children are well received in their home.
Since I got to Chispas, all the experiences I’ve had have helped me to grow as a person, a teacher, and above all to grow spiritually. It is my first year teaching and I have learned so much from the children; they teach me something new and extraordinary every day. Every child deserves a lot of love and at Chispas we love them in everything.
Despite the pandemic, God allowed us to have a very blessed year where nothing was lacking. I feel so fortunate to have become part of Chispas because I know that God brought me here. Every day I learn new things in Chispas, I learn so much from Estuardo, Callie, and Vivi; they inspire me to seek more of Jesus, to let the love of Jesus show through us to our children. They certainly reflect the love of Jesus. I am so grateful to have arrived at Chispas, it really is changing my life and those of the children. It is a huge blessing to be part of Chispas.
Children deserve to be in Chispas because they are grateful for what they have.
Chispas is more than a school, it is a very welcoming home. Thank God we are a united family where we have the most incredible kids that God knows deserve His love.
Here are written the wonderful things we get to do in Chispas of Change.
Thank you for everything and we know that God will provide because we do things with love and do them for God.
